• RUFORUM was created in 2004 by Vice Chancellors of universities in Africa.
• Over the past 19 years, the network has grown from 10 universities, primarily from eastern and
southern Africa, representing five countries, to 163 universities from across 40 countries in the
five regions of eastern, southern, central, west, and north Africa by 2023.

• RUFORUM is nested within continental and global frameworks, including the Comprehensive Africa
Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP), Africa’s Agenda 2063, and the UN Sustainable
Development Goals
• Introduced M.Sc Research Methods offered at JKUAT. Curerently offered under online courses –
SOdDeL (https://sodel3v2.jkuat.ac.ke/course/index.php)

Four Key RUFORUM’s Strategic Areas:
RUFORUM’s mission while contributing to partners, country and
regional development aspirations. The four areas are:
1. Skilling, Engagement and Community Development (SECD)
2. Research, Innovation and Development (RID)
3. Strategic Partnerships. The aim is to build and nurture the
RUFORUM network as a whole by increasing visibility, fostering
dynamic alumni communities, building strategic partnerships, and
leading resource mobilisation for mission implementation
4. Strategic Knowledge Management- support Knowledge Hub (K-Hub)
